Hattember 2022 has once again been a resounding success, with over 60 entrants from across the world - including Romania, Sweden, the UK, the US and all states of Australia. In each of the three categories this year – Millinery, Novice Millinery and Modern Revival – Hatters Millinery Supplies send a curated bag of materials to each entrant that challenges the entrants to create a hat or headpiece using at least some part of each of the provided items.
So many spectacular creative entries arrived to us in Sydney to be judged by our esteemed panel of judges. This year’s judges included Neil Grigg, renowned Sydney milliner with over 40 years experience dressing celebrities, brides, and race goers.
Andrea Caneiro, head of the Fashion and Design Studio at Ultimo TAFE in Sydney and her own millinery label Somewhere Here.
Rebecca Read, head milliner at Opera Australia.
Our final judge was Cynthia Jones-Bryson, who is a renowned award-winning milliner and was the select Milliner to Dame Quentin Bryce when she was the Governor General of Australia. We were lucky enough to host Cynthia as our Designer-in-Residence teaching her signature feather workshop on the weekend following the Hattember event. The standard of entries made it extremely difficult to crown a winner, with the judging criteria covering a mixture of design, skill, expertise, fit, creative use of materials, and originality. From a humble bag of materials sourced from Hatters Millinery Supplies everyone created a work of art.
There is currently an online voting platform for the people’s choice award
https://hattember.com/peoples-choice-2022/. Where you can choose your favourite from the gallery of submitted entries. The public vote will be open until the 30th of September.
